Gel nails consist of brushing a longer lasting shellac nail polish over your natural nails. With each coat, the nail is placed under a UV light to cure.
Acrylic nails, often referred to as “fake nails”, are made of a combination of liquid and powder that’s laid over your natural nail with a brush. For longer nails, an acrylic tip is also applied to extend the lenght of your nail. Your nails are then filed and shaped to your desired length and then painted with regular polish.
Acrylic nails should last about two to three weeks before needing a fill. Your natural nail continues to grow underneath the Acrylic nails which is why you need to have them filled. After six to eight weeks, you should soak off the acrylic nails and apply a fresh set.
Many people love the gel nails because they last much longer than standard polish. Gel polish doesn’t chip, so you can keep it on for weeks at a time. It is cured with a UV light which helps it to last longer.
